Banker in court for allegedly stealing GHc1 million
The Branch Manager of Oyibi Area Community Bank PLC, Adjetey Isaac Noi, has been accused of reactivating a customer’s dormant account without permission and using it to move GH¢1 million from the bank.
The 28-year-old banker is currently before the Adenta Circuit Court on a charge of stealing. He has pleaded not guilty.
According to the prosecution, Noi allegedly used the dormant account as a transit account to transfer the money to several accounts held at other banks.
The alleged transactions took place between March and September 2025 and were uncovered following an audit at the Oyibi branch.
Chief Inspector Maxwell Lanyo told the court that the case came to light after ARB Apex Bank PLC received information about suspected fraudulent transactions at the branch.
On September 28, 2026, the Head of Audit and Inspection at ARB Apex Bank, together with a team of auditors, visited the branch to investigate the matter.
During the audit, the team allegedly discovered that GH¢1 million had been transferred from an internal bank account to another account at the same bank.
Prosecutors said the receiving account had been dormant but was allegedly reactivated by Noi without the knowledge or approval of the account holder.
The prosecution further alleged that after the GH¢1 million entered the account, it was used to transfer the money to several accounts at different financial institutions.
The audit team reported the transaction to the head office of ARB Apex Bank, after which management directed that a formal complaint be made to the police.
Noi was subsequently arrested and questioned over the transaction. The prosecution said he was unable to give investigators a satisfactory explanation for the movement of the GH¢1 million.
His lawyer asked the court to grant him bail, arguing that he was not a flight risk and had strong ties to Ghana. Counsel said Noi lives at Dodowa in the Greater Accra Region and would make himself available whenever required by the court.
The court, presided over by Angela Attachie, granted Noi bail of GH¢1 million with two sureties. Both sureties are required to justify the bail with landed property.
The case remains before the court, and the allegations against Noi have not yet been proven.
