Ghana Jollof Case: Court Grants Salomey Baffoe GH¢100,000 Bail
Senior Nursing Officer Salomey Awiti Baffoe has been granted bail of GH¢100,000 by the court in a case involving allegations of abetting the publication and circulation of false news on social media.
The 40-year-old nurse is required to provide two sureties, both of whom must be civil servants earning a monthly salary of at least GH¢3,000.
Ms Baffoe, who has pleaded not guilty to the charge, had been in custody while proceedings continued.
Her detention had raised concerns among members of her family, who appealed for her release, citing the impact of her absence on her children.
The latest bail ruling follows an earlier decision by the High Court to refuse her bail after prosecutors argued that she was still needed to assist with investigations and could potentially interfere with witnesses.
The case has also experienced delays, with proceedings adjourned to October 5 because the presiding magistrate was attending a conference for judges and magistrates.
Ms Baffoe is accused of being involved in the publication and circulation of information alleged by the prosecution to be false on social media.
The prosecution is expected to continue presenting its case when proceedings resume.
Her lawyers maintain that she is innocent until proven guilty and have emphasised her right to a fair trial throughout the proceedings.
