Fire outbreak hits North Industrial Area in Accra
Firefighters are battling a fire that broke out at the North Industrial Area in Accra, with difficulties accessing the affected location reportedly hampering efforts to contain the blaze.
The fire started in the early hours of Thursday, October 1, 2026, sending thick smoke and flames into the air within the industrial enclave.
Two fire tenders have arrived at the scene, but eyewitnesses say the blaze remains intense as firefighters work to bring it under control.
An eyewitness said the cause of the fire was not immediately known, while the flames appeared to have intensified before firefighting assistance arrived.
“We do not know what really caused the fire. All we realised is that the fire is burning from up there. We do not have anyone to help, so the fire has escalated,” the eyewitness said.
Another eyewitness claimed that some residents were obstructing the movement of Ghana National Fire Service personnel who had arrived to tackle the blaze.
The eyewitness appealed to residents to cooperate with the firefighters and clear the way to allow the fire tenders to reach the affected area.
“Fire Service came to help, yet the residents want to fight them. They should just pave the way for them to pass through, but they are refusing. That is what will happen,” the eyewitness said.
As of the time of filing, the cause of the fire, the extent of damage and any possible casualties had not been confirmed.
