The case involving Senior Nursing Officer Salomey Awiti Baffoe, who is facing an abetment of crime charge over the alleged publication and circulation of false news on social media, has been adjourned to October 5, 2026.

The Accra High Court adjourned the matter on Wednesday, September 30, following the ongoing Association of Judges and Magistrates Conference.

The adjournment means Ms Baffoe will remain in custody after the High Court rejected her bail application on September 24.

The prosecution had opposed the bail request, arguing that the accused was still required to assist with ongoing investigations.

In its ruling, the court cited the cyber-related nature of the case and expressed concern that her release at that stage could create a risk of interference with witnesses or ongoing investigations. The court subsequently directed the Republic to expedite its investigations.

Ms Baffoe’s lawyer, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, had urged the court to grant bail, arguing that his client was presumed innocent and that the prosecution had not established sufficient grounds to justify her continued detention.

The defence also maintained that the charge was a misdemeanour and disputed the prosecution’s assertion that Ms Baffoe could interfere with the investigation if granted bail.

Her lawyers further appealed to the court to consider her personal circumstances as a mother, including the educational needs of one of her children who is preparing to enter Senior High School.

Following the bail ruling, another member of the defence team, Enoch Afoakwa, questioned the evidential basis for the court’s concerns about possible interference.

He argued that the Republic’s case was based largely on what he described as “bare depositions” in its affidavit, rather than evidence showing that Ms Baffoe had the means or ability to interfere with witnesses or the investigation.

The defence has indicated that it intends to challenge the refusal of bail, including through an appeal.

Ms Baffoe, 40, is a Senior Nursing Officer from Techiman. She was arrested in September and subsequently arraigned before the Adentan Circuit Court, where she pleaded not guilty to a charge of abetment of crime.

The charge relates to the alleged publication of false news under Sections 20(1) and 208 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).

According to the prosecution, Ms Baffoe allegedly acted as a liaison for UK-based TikTok personality Barbara Asantewaa Kodua, popularly known as “Ghana Jollof”, and helped recruit individuals to redistribute videos produced by her across various social media platforms.

Police further allege that financial transactions between the two women formed part of the arrangement, with Ms Kodua allegedly sending money to Ms Baffoe to facilitate the distribution of the videos.

Investigators also allege that portions of the money were subsequently shared with other individuals involved in circulating the content.

Meanwhile, police have declared Ms Kodua wanted as investigations continue into allegations involving the publication of false news, incitedful comments and offensive conduct linked to the “Ghana Jollof” account.

The case is expected to return to the Accra High Court on October 5, 2026.
