Energy and Green Transition Minister Dr John Abdulai Jinapor has commissioned a new 6,000-metric-tonne Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) storage terminal as part of efforts to strengthen Ghana’s LPG supply infrastructure.

The commissioning on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, coincided with the maiden delivery of LPG by MT Asharami Ghana at the facility.

In a post on Facebook, Dr Jinapor said the terminal would expand Ghana’s national LPG storage capacity and improve the reliability of supplies to the domestic market.

“This investment is an important addition to Ghana’s energy infrastructure. It increases our national LPG storage capacity and strengthens our ability to maintain reliable LPG supplies,” he said.

The Minister described the investment by Asharami Ghana and Sahara Group as a significant boost to the country’s energy infrastructure, particularly as government works to increase access to LPG nationwide.

He said government was targeting at least 50% LPG access by 2030, making additional investments in storage, transportation and distribution infrastructure necessary to achieve the goal.

According to Dr Jinapor, increased access to LPG would support the adoption of cleaner cooking methods, enhance energy security and improve the resilience of the country’s LPG supply chain.

“As Government works towards our target of at least 50% LPG access by 2030, investments such as this are critical to expanding access to cleaner cooking, improving energy security and building resilience across the LPG supply chain,” he said.

Dr Jinapor also commended Asharami Ghana and the Sahara Group for investing in Ghana’s energy sector and demonstrating confidence in the country’s energy market.

He said the facility was expected to generate wider economic opportunities in areas including LPG trading, logistics, transportation and distribution.

“This significant investment demonstrates confidence in Ghana and will create opportunities across trading, logistics, transportation, distribution and other related sectors,” the Minister added.

The maiden LPG delivery by MT Asharami Ghana is expected to boost supplies to the domestic market while supporting the increased storage capacity provided by the new terminal.
