There was confusion at the Accra High Court on Wednesday after lawyers for Salomey Baffoe’s case indicated that her lead counsel, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, had been invited by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).

The development occurred after proceedings in the bail application involving Ms Baffoe, who is facing a charge of abetment of crime in connection with the alleged publication of false news linked to the “Ghana Jollof” TikTok account.

The exact reason for the EOCO invitation remains unclear.

A video obtained by Adomonline.com captured Nana Baffour Awuah in a heated exchange with a woman said to be an EOCO official.

The woman had blocked his car, and the lawyer, who was visibly furious, pushed her aside to access his vehicle and drove off.

Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah had been in court for the hearing of his client’s bail application, which was subsequently adjourned to Thursday, September 24, after the prosecution requested more time to respond to the application.

The defence opposed the adjournment, arguing that the matter concerned Ms Baffoe’s liberty and should therefore be treated with urgency.

The court eventually directed the prosecution to file and serve its response by 9:00 a.m. ahead of the next hearing.

The reported EOCO development involving the lawyer has since generated confusion at the court, with details of what prompted the invitation yet to be established.

Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, who is also the Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, has been leading the defence team for Ms Baffoe since her arrest and has publicly challenged aspects of the case against his client.

Ms Baffoe was remanded by the Adentan Circuit Court after pleading not guilty to the charge of abetment of crime, to wit, publication of false news.

Police allege that she assisted Barbara Asantewaa Kodua, whom they identify as the operator of the “Ghana Jollof” account, in distributing online content and recruiting others to circulate the material.

The defense has, however, rejected the allegations.
