Residents of Kwame Anum, a community in Ashalaja within the Obom-Domeabra Constituency of the Greater Accra Region, have appealed to the authorities to urgently address the deplorable condition of their road, which they say has made transportation increasingly difficult.

The residents also expressed frustration over what they described as delays in the reconstruction of the road, while accusing their Member of Parliament, Hon. Isaac Yiboh, of failing to adequately lobby for its completion.

According to the residents, the MP, during the 2024 election campaign, assured them that he would work towards improving the road if the National Democratic Congress (NDC) returned to power.

Speaking to Nana Ansah Matthew during a visit to the constituency, some residents said the road had deteriorated to the extent that drivers, motorists and pedestrians were struggling to access the community.

They explained that the situation becomes particularly difficult during the dry season, when vehicles generate thick clouds of dust along the road.

The residents said the excessive dust affects the surrounding environment and, according to them, has contributed to respiratory concerns among some residents.

During the rainy season, they said, the situation worsens as portions of the road become muddy and difficult for vehicles to navigate.

They are therefore appealing to the government, the municipal authorities and other relevant stakeholders to intervene and ensure that the road is reconstructed to improve accessibility and ease transportation within the community.

Meanwhile, an opinion leader in the area, Opanyi Lamptey, said the current situation was particularly frustrating because the road had previously been tarred, although its condition had deteriorated over time.

He explained that the old road was removed last year to make way for a proper reconstruction project.

However, according to him, the expected reconstruction has yet to be completed, leaving residents with what he described as a difficult and unsafe route.

He said the abandonment of the project had compounded the challenges faced by residents and motorists who depend on the road for their daily activities.

The residents are consequently calling for urgent action to resume and complete the reconstruction of the Kwame Anum road, saying a properly constructed road would improve transportation, reduce dust and enhance living conditions in the community.
