Ghanaian actor Abraham Kofi Davis, popularly known as Salinko, has revealed plans to introduce a monthly support scheme for elderly members of the country’s entertainment industry.

The Kumawood actor said he intends to support between 300 and 500 veteran actors and musicians aged 60 and above, with each person receiving GH¢1,000 every month to assist with healthcare costs and other essential needs.

Salinko explained that his desire to support people comes from a deep personal satisfaction he derives from helping others, despite occasionally feeling the need to withdraw from such acts of generosity.

“Sometimes I want to close the door to being so kind, but my director usually tells me I can’t. I really want to, but I just can’t because I enjoy helping people,” he said.

He disclosed that the initiative is expected to begin next year, with the welfare of aging entertainers becoming a major focus of his charitable efforts.

“I pray to God to continue blessing me and the work I do. I want to be giving a monthly allowance of GH¢1,000 to veterans above 60 years who are still in the industry. I am looking at about 300 to 500 veterans who we will be taking care of, including their medications and other necessities,” he added.

The proposed intervention comes amid long-standing concerns over the welfare of some veteran Ghanaian entertainers, many of whom have faced financial and health challenges after years of contributing to the creative industry.

If implemented as announced, Salinko’s initiative could provide regular assistance to hundreds of elderly industry players who may otherwise struggle to meet their basic needs.
