A man identified as Charles has made serious allegations against his former wife, Maabena, and her current husband, claiming that his two daughters, aged 11 and 13, were sexually abused while in their care.

Charles made the allegations on Oyerepa Afutuo, hosted by Auntie Naa, on Monday, August 31, 2026, while recounting his prolonged struggle to gain access to his children following his divorce from Maabena.

According to Charles, he has continued to provide financial support for his daughters but has been denied regular access to them. He said his concerns escalated after he was allegedly informed by a relative of Maabena that her current husband had sexually abused the two girls.

“I got to know through a sister of Maabena that the current husband of Maabena had defiled my two daughters. He had abused them sexually for the family to even embark on rituals for my daughters without my notice,” Charles alleged.

He said he confronted his former wife, but she initially rejected the allegation. Charles further claimed that attempts to have his daughters placed in his care were met with a demand for GH¢20,000.

“I asked Maabena about it and she said it was not true. When asked to give my children to me, she insists on getting GH¢20,000 from me first,” he alleged.

Charles also claimed that the man had previously been accused of sexually abusing another girl from a different relationship.

The brother of Maabena, who was contacted on the programme, corroborated parts of Charles’ account, saying he personally returned to Kumasi after learning of the allegations and had the accused man arrested.

“I was in Accra when I heard the issue, so I came back to Kumasi that same day, reaching here at midnight. I got my sister’s husband arrested. Then I took the girls to the hospital for medical check-ups. The medical reports showed that the two girls were sexually abused,” he stated.

He said the accused appeared before court following his arrest but was later released after Maabena reportedly pleaded for his freedom.

“When he was arrested, all processes were made and he even appeared before the court the first time. Then Maabena later came to plead fervently for the husband’s release. Since then, I blocked my sister and deleted her contact because I didn’t want to be part of all that chaos again,” he said.

Efforts by the programme to speak directly with Maabena were unsuccessful because her phone was switched off. However, a previously recorded phone conversation played on air reportedly contained her acknowledgement of the alleged sexual abuse while maintaining that she wanted the matter handled by her family.

The programme also reported that Maabena’s husband is currently undergoing training to become an immigration personnel and appealed to the relevant authorities to assist in identifying and locating him.

The allegations have raised serious concerns about the safety and protection of the two minors, with the matter now requiring appropriate intervention by the relevant authorities and due legal processes to establish the facts.
