“Why should I support McBrown? I don’t like anything she does” – Oboy Siki
Ghanaian veteran actor Oboy Siki, has made his position on actress and media personality Felicity Ama Agyemang, known as Nana Ama McBrown, clear, saying he has little interest in her work and will not be attending the premiere of her latest movie in Kumasi.
Oboy Siki explained that his willingness to support McBrown is largely connected to his relationship with Ghanaian comedian and content creator Ebenezer Akwasi Antwi, popularly known as Dr Likee. Without that connection, he said, he would have no reason to back her projects.
“I’m supporting McBrown because of Dr Likee, but I can’t attend her movie premiere. I wouldn’t support McBrown if not for Dr Likee. Why should I support her? I don’t like anything she does,” he said.
The veteran actor maintained that public admiration does not oblige everyone to share the same opinion, insisting that he prefers to form his own judgments rather than follow popular sentiment.
“People will not understand me until I’m dead and gone. Not everyone likes her. Some people like her and what she does while some don’t,” he stated.
“I don’t follow what people do. I’m not supposed to like someone because everyone does. If I know you like something, I will never like the same thing. It doesn’t mean I have an issue with you,” he added.
Oboy Siki, however, left the door open to attending McBrown’s premiere if he receives a personal invitation and decides he is comfortable going. He said he would not risk showing up uninvited, particularly with members of his team.
“If she had invited me to the premiere and I feel like I’m okay, I would go. I’m a special person, so why will I attend without an invitation? If my team and I go and they sack us, what then will I be doing?” he asked.
He also recalled the strong relationship he shares with Dr Likee, revealing that the comedian had planned to have him on his London show after informing him about the event months ahead of time. Oboy Siki said he eventually turned down the opportunity because he does not travel outside Ghana.
“When Dr Likee wanted to organise his London show, he informed me last year. He asked me to get ready since we would be going together. I told him I had to decline the invitation because I don’t travel abroad,” he recounted.
Oboy Siki’s remarks are likely to generate fresh debate among fans, particularly given McBrown’s popularity within Ghana’s entertainment industry and his admission that his support for her is based more on friendship than admiration for her work.
