President John Dramani Mahama is set to return to the Accra International Airport on Thursday, August 27, to cut sod for the construction of a new multi-tiered, multi-purpose car park and airport hotels complex.

The project, according to the Minister of Government Communications and President Mahama’s Spokesperson, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, forms part of the President’s commitment to delivering mega and world-class infrastructure projects across the country.

In a post on Facebook, Mr Kwakye Ofosu highlighted President Mahama’s record of major infrastructure investments, citing the Terminal 3 at the Accra International Airport, the MPS Terminal at the Tema Port and efforts to secure $400 million for the Tema-Mpakadan Railway Project.

The new airport development is expected to significantly enhance facilities and services at the Kotoka International Airport while providing additional commercial, hospitality and entertainment opportunities.

The proposed complex will feature a seven-storey car park with more than 2,000 parking bays, addressing parking challenges at the airport.

It will also include two hotels, as well as a pedestrian connector linking the complex directly to the airport terminal for the convenience of passengers and other airport users.

Other components of the project include a shopping mall with a food court, retail outlets and office spaces for rental, creating additional commercial opportunities within the airport environment.

The complex will further feature a sky lounge for entertainment and a sky observatory, which will provide visitors with an opportunity to watch aircraft land and take off.

Mr Kwakye Ofosu said the project reflects President Mahama’s reputation for investing in large-scale infrastructure designed to modernise Ghana’s facilities and position the country as a competitive regional hub.

The sod-cutting ceremony on Thursday is expected to formally pave the way for the development of the ambitious project at the Accra International Airport.
