The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has declared its full and unreserved support for its Minority Caucus in Parliament over the alleged $1.7 billion losses recorded by the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod).

Addressing a press briefing, the National Organizer of the NPP, Henry Nana Boakye, dismissed suggestions of division within the party, stressing that the entire party, including its Presidential Candidate, is fully behind the Minority led by Alexander Afenyo-Markin.

“The New Patriotic Party stands fully, completely, and unreservedly behind our mighty Minority Caucus in Parliament. We wholeheartedly support each member of our Minority Caucus in this struggle. We back their questions, we back their scrutiny,” he stated.

According to him, the party supports the Minority’s demand for a full and transparent account of how a state institution mandated to buy and protect Ghana’s gold could preside over losses of such magnitude.

“This is not partisan politics. This is a national duty. Whoever governs this country is answerable to the people who elected them. They are answerable to every dollar of the people’s money that passes through their hands,” he added.

Mr. Boakye insisted that the NPP will not relent until all questions surrounding the alleged losses are answered publicly and subjected to proper parliamentary scrutiny.

“Let me be equally plain about what comes next. We are not backing off. Not now. Not tomorrow. Not until every question is answered in full and in public and under proper scrutiny,” he declared.

He further charged the Minority Leader and members of the caucus to use every legal and parliamentary tool available to pursue accountability.

“We say to the Minority Leader and every member of the caucus: use every relevant law in the books – every question on the floor of Parliament, every committee hearing, every quest for documents, every order paper, every point of order. Utilize every relevant tool provided by the Standing Orders of Parliament with confidence,” he urged.

“The Parliament belongs to the people of Ghana, not to the convenience of whoever is in office. Be very strong in committee, very strong on the floor of Parliament. Fight for the people of Ghana in the court of public opinion as well. Fight until the Ghanaian people receive all the answers they deserve in writing, under oath if necessary.”

Mr. Boakye concluded that the NPP remains vigilant and will not look away, calling on all Ghanaians to demand answers and truth regarding the alleged GoldBod losses.
