Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has filed separate lawsuits against the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi, and the Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), Eric Agyei, over alleged defamatory statements linked to the ongoing money extortion controversy.

The two legal actions, according to Mr Afenyo-Markin, are intended to allow the allegations against him to be tested through the appropriate legal channels.

Speaking on the floor of Parliament, the Minority Leader said he remained prepared to cooperate with any legitimate investigation into the matter and submit himself to the due process of the law.

The first suit, Alexander Afenyo-Markin v. Sammy Gyamfi and Multimedia Group Limited, has been filed at the Accra High Court.

The second case, Osahene Alexander Afenyo-Markin v. Eric Agyei and Peace FM, has been filed at the Achimota Circuit Court.

Mr Afenyo-Markin also challenged persons making allegations against him to formally report the matter to the appropriate security and investigative agencies to facilitate a thorough investigation.

He said he was ready to appear before the Office of the Special Prosecutor or any other competent state institution should a formal investigation be opened.

The Minority Leader stressed that political discourse had boundaries and warned that certain lines should not be crossed in the course of public debate.

According to him, once such boundaries are crossed, the appropriate legal institutions must be allowed to determine the facts and deal with the matter in accordance with the law.

Mr Afenyo-Markin further defended his record in Parliament, saying he had served as Minority Leader with integrity, hard work and determination while protecting the interests of the House and his constituents.

He maintained that the lawsuits were not an attempt to avoid scrutiny but rather a means of ensuring that the allegations were subjected to proper legal processes.
