One-week observance of Asamoah Gyan’s father underway
Ghanaian football legend Asamoah Gyan joined his brother, Baffour Gyan, on Friday, August 21, 2026, to observe the one-week remembrance of their late father, George Gyan Baffour Mensah, in Accra.
The memorial ceremony was held at the New Gbawe Cluster of Schools, following the burial of their father in Didcot, United Kingdom, on July 25, 2026. George Gyan Baffour Mensah passed away on June 29, 2026.
Asamoah Gyan, Ghana’s all-time leading international goalscorer and former Black Stars captain, was visibly involved in the solemn ceremony as family members, friends and sympathisers gathered to honour the memory of the late George Gyan Baffour Mensah.
The football star has previously acknowledged the significant role his father played in shaping his life, education and football career, alongside the support of his brother, Baffour Gyan.
The one-week observance brought together loved ones to remember a man whose influence extended beyond his immediate family and into the early journey of one of Ghana’s most celebrated footballers.
For Asamoah Gyan and his family, the ceremony marked another emotional moment in their mourning as they continue to come to terms with the loss of their father.
The late George Gyan Baffour Mensah is survived by his children and family, who continue to celebrate his life and legacy.
