Auditor-General had full access to GoldBod records – Sammy Gyamfi

The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi, has rejected claims that the institution failed to provide the Auditor-General with complete financial information for its 2025 accounts.

His comments follow concerns raised by Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin over GoldBod’s reported overall surplus of GH¢5.44 billion.

Mr Afenyo-Markin had questioned the figure and suggested that the Auditor-General may not have been given a complete picture of GoldBod’s financial operations.

However, Mr Gyamfi insists that the Auditor-General had full and unrestricted access to all relevant records and documents required to conduct the audit.

Speaking at the government’s Accountability Series on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, he challenged those making the claims to verify them directly with the Auditor-General.

According to him, GoldBod provided the audit team with all documents and information requested, while issues raised in the management letter were adequately addressed.

The Auditor-General’s report shows that GoldBod recorded an operational surplus of GH¢909.7 million and an overall surplus of GH¢5.44 billion for the 2025 financial year.

Mr Gyamfi also pointed out that the audit report did not make any adverse findings against GoldBod, including claims of financial losses, procurement breaches or violations of the Public Financial Management Act.

“They now claim that the Auditor-General did not have access to the full picture concerning the operations of GoldBod. This position betrays either a lack of understanding of how an external audit is conducted, or a deliberate determination to undermine yet another independent state institution when its findings do not suit their narratives,” he said.

Mr Gyamfi described the allegations of incomplete disclosure as an attempt to cast doubt on the credibility of the Auditor-General’s audit and its findings.

He urged critics and the public to rely on the official audit report when assessing GoldBod’s financial performance rather than unverified claims about information allegedly withheld from the auditors.
