“He has never given us GH¢1” – Safiya accuses movie director of abandoning child
Safiya, a young woman from Adenta, has accused a movie director identified as Mr Ben of raping her after she rejected his proposal and subsequently abandoning her and their 10-month-old child.
Safiya made the allegation on ‘Oyerepa Afutuo’, hosted by Auntie Naa, on Monday, August 17, 2026.
According to her, she contacted a movie production team after seeing their advertisement online and was invited to ‘Twedeɛ’ for an audition. She said she paid GH¢200 to become part of the cast.
Safiya alleged that after she reported to the movie location, Mr Ben expressed interest in her and proposed a relationship, promising to marry her. She said she rejected the proposal because she considered herself too young.
She further alleged that after some days, Mr Ben invited her to his house, where he renewed his proposal. According to Safiya, when she rejected him again, he pushed her onto his bed and raped her.
“I got pregnant, and he decided not to take care of me or the pregnancy. I looked after myself throughout my pregnancy. My child is now ten months old, but he has never given even GH¢1 to us. He has threatened to deal with me if I ever reach out to him,” she alleged.
Safiya said she stopped schooling at the Junior High School level and claimed that Mr Ben’s brother and sister discouraged her from reporting the matter to the police.
She said her main concern now is for Mr Ben to take responsibility for their child.
After the allegations were made, the programme reached Mr Ben’s brother on air because the team could not immediately contact the director.
The brother denied Safiya’s rape allegation, insisting that she and Mr Ben were in a relationship.
“He is a married man. She is lying if she says she was raped. They were in a relationship. It was not rape. I was even helping with taking care of her, but I stopped because she cursed me. I will bring my brother to your studio tomorrow because I can’t also reach out to my brother. No one told her not to report the case. She is lying,” he said.
The allegations and denials remain untested, and Mr Ben is yet to personally respond to the accusations. His brother, however, has indicated that he would bring him to the studio to respond to the matter.
