Ghanaian dancehall star Livingstone Etse Satekla, popularly known as Stonebwoy, has urged unmarried people to stop placing restrictions on where they can meet potential partners, saying love can develop in the most unexpected circumstances.

Speaking in a recent interview, the “Manodzi” hitmaker said singles should not assume that their future husbands or wives can only be found in places such as churches or workplaces. He noted that social gatherings, funerals, weddings and even social media can create opportunities for meaningful connections.

“People took numbers at funerals, and they linked up, and people took numbers at weddings. Everywhere is possible; in your DMs is possible. Don’t write that off. You don’t know where your husband can be,” he said.

Stonebwoy, who has been married to Dr Louisa Ansong for nearly a decade, used an experience on a flight to illustrate how unexpected situations can bring strangers closer. He said turbulence forced passengers who had initially kept to themselves to interact almost immediately.

“I was on a flight. The turbulence was turbulencing, everybody was nice instantly, but before the flight everyone was forming. Something brings people together,” he recounted.

He therefore cautioned singles against dismissing potential partners simply because they did not meet them in their preferred environment.

“Don’t be singling out the events where you think it’s supposed to be that you find your man or you find your woman. Some people have streamlined it to, if it doesn’t meet me in a church or at the bank, I don’t like it. But your husband came to the funeral and you frown on him,” he said.

Reflecting on his own marriage, Stonebwoy said his relationship with Dr Louisa has lasted about 12 years and has been strengthened by friendship. The couple have two children and are expected to celebrate their 10th wedding anniversary next year.

“You need to actually make a best friend for you,” he advised, stressing that lasting relationships require more than physical attraction and should also be built on emotional and spiritual connection.

Stonebwoy’s comments have added a lighter perspective to conversations about modern relationships, encouraging singles to remain receptive to genuine connections regardless of where they begin. He also playfully assured women looking for partners that the upcoming Bhim Festival would have plenty of “fine Ghanaian boys” around.
