Former Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC) Chief Executive Officer, Sedina Christine Tamakloe-Attionu, has been released from custody after the Attorney-General withdrew an application seeking to stay the execution of the Court of Appeal’s judgment acquitting and discharging her.

The Court of Appeal on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, struck out the application following its withdrawal by the Attorney-General, paving the way for Mrs Tamakloe-Attionu’s release.

Her release comes nearly two weeks after the Court of Appeal overturned her conviction by the Accra High Court and acquitted and discharged her.

Mrs Tamakloe-Attionu, who served as MASLOC CEO from November 2013 to January 2017, was prosecuted on 78 counts, including conspiracy to steal, theft, causing financial loss to the state, money laundering, improper payment of public funds and breaches of the Public Procurement Act.

The Accra High Court convicted her in April 2024 and sentenced her to 10 years in prison in absentia.

She returned to Ghana in June 2026 following her extradition from the United States and was subsequently taken into custody to serve the sentence.

Her legal team later appealed the conviction, leading to the Court of Appeal’s decision to overturn the High Court judgment and acquit and discharge her.

Although the Attorney-General has indicated that the State intends to challenge the Court of Appeal’s decision at the Supreme Court, the withdrawal of the stay application means the acquittal and discharge can take effect while the further legal process is pursued.

Mrs Tamakloe-Attionu is therefore no longer in custody following Wednesday’s court proceedings.
