The Ghana Police Service, working with the National Signals Bureau (NSB), has arrested two individuals over separate videos containing alleged inflammatory and offensive remarks concerning Prophet Mohammed.

One of the suspects, 35-year-old Masud Abdullah, an Imam, was arrested over a video in which he is alleged to have made comments encouraging violence against individuals who make derogatory remarks about the Prophet.

The Police said Abdullah allegedly made the statements while preaching at a mosque in Ntensere, in the Atwima Nwabiagya North District of the Ashanti Region.

In a separate case, the Police Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team arrested Daniel Junior Yaw Adjei, popularly known as Apostle Daniel JY Adjei, in connection with another video.

According to the Police, Mr Adjei was allegedly seen in the video making offensive and derogatory statements about Prophet Mohammed.

The Police said investigations into both incidents are ongoing and the suspects would be processed in accordance with the law.

In a statement, the Service urged religious leaders, preachers, community leaders and individuals who use social media to exercise restraint and responsibility when making public comments.

It stressed that constitutional freedoms, including freedom of religion and expression, should not be used to promote violence or encourage people to attack others.

“Freedom of religion and freedom of expression must never be used as justification for inciting violence or encouraging members of the public to harm others,” the Police said.

The Service further warned that statements capable of provoking violence constitute criminal offences and assured that persons found responsible would be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
