Ghanaian musician Andy Osei Sarfo, popularly known as Kweku Flick, has sparked a heated debate after lamenting what he believes is a lack of adequate support for his music from Ghanaian audiences.

The controversy began after Kweku Flick publicly thanked Tanzanian internet sensation Tenge Tenge, whose real name is Sahl Ahmed, for promoting his music and showing particular interest in his song ‘FRANGŌ’.

In a post on X, the ‘High’ hitmaker suggested that the reception he is receiving from international audiences has been more encouraging than the attention he gets in Ghana.

“Sometimes the support you expect from home comes from somewhere else. Tenge Tenge, my brother, thank you for the genuine love. The people of Ghana know FRANGŌ is a big record, but somehow the support from outside is louder than the support from home.”

The remark has divided music fans, with some accusing the Kweku Flick of overlooking the Ghanaian listeners, DJs and social media users who have promoted his work over the years.

Some fans also questioned whether the musician’s gratitude to an international personality was justified when, in their view, local supporters had already played a significant role in building his career.

Others, however, sided with Kweku Flick, arguing that Ghanaian musicians often receive greater appreciation at home only after gaining recognition abroad. They said his experience reflects a broader challenge faced by local artistes seeking international visibility.

The debate was further fuelled by fellow musician Thorsten Owusu Gyimah, known professionally as Yaw Tog, who appeared to support the sentiment by invoking the popular expression that “a hero is not celebrated in his own home.”

Kweku Flick’s comments have therefore reopened the long-running conversation about whether Ghanaian audiences adequately support their own musicians or only begin to embrace them after international recognition.
