Ghanaian highlife veteran Daniel Morris Ofori Amponsah, popularly known as Ofori Amponsah, has revealed that a chance meeting with dancehall star Livingstone Etse Satekla, known professionally as Stonebwoy, on a flight led to the latter’s involvement in the remix of his classic song, “Odo Nwom.”

Ofori Amponsah disclosed that he had been considering a new version of the song for about two years before re-recording it and searching for artistes to feature on the project.

According to him, his conversation with Stonebwoy during the flight changed the direction of the collaboration, with the “Into the Future” hitmaker expressing his admiration for the original song and asking to be included.

“I started thinking about remixing the song about two years ago. And so I did the song. I just went to the studio and re-recorded the song. And then, I was there thinking about somebody to do it with. Then we just met Stonebwoy; we were on a flight together. We met Stonebwoy and we were talking about the song. And he said, ‘Ah Charlie, this song is a song that I like.’ I said, ‘I’m remixing it.’ And he said, ‘Then give it to me,’” he said.

Ofori Amponsah also revealed that Ghanaian singer Dennis Nana Dwamena, professionally known as KiDi, was his first choice for the collaboration and had already received the song before Stonebwoy recorded his contribution.

“I wanted KiDi to be on the song before even Stonebwoy. So I had sent the song to KiDi already. And so after Stone recorded his part, KiDi also did it. And it was just like, it was kind of divine. I just consider myself a musician. I just create a song. What people call it, I don’t care. The song is doing good. I’m surprised at the reception of the song because I thought we were just joking with it, but it’s making waves,” he added.

The collaboration brings together Ofori Amponsah’s established highlife sound with the contemporary styles of Stonebwoy and KiDi, giving the well-known “Odo Nwom” a fresh appeal for a new generation of listeners.

The musician said the positive response to the remix has exceeded his expectations, describing the song’s growing popularity as a pleasant surprise.
