“I wanted fans to support Stonebwoy’s show, not fight over us” – Shatta Wale

Ghanaian dancehall artiste Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr., popularly known as Shatta Wale, has disclosed that he had plans to attend Stonebwoy’s recent concert and use the platform to call for an end to the rivalry between their supporters.

The “On God” hitmaker said he wanted to address fans of both artistes and encourage them to stop turning the careers of the two musicians into a competition.

Speaking during a TikTok Live session, Shatta Wale explained that his intention was to promote unity and create a better atmosphere within Ghana’s music industry.

“Yesterday, it was my plan to tell people to stop fighting about Stonebwoy and me and go and support his show. I wanted to be on stage and say that. I needed to use this opportunity to clear things and make people feel comfortable,” he said.

Shatta Wale, whose long-standing rivalry with Stonebwoy has often dominated conversations among Ghanaian music fans, said he does not see his career as a contest against any artiste.

He referenced Jamaican dancehall stars Mavado and Vybz Kartel, noting that artistes can have different styles and fan bases while still succeeding internationally.

“Mavado and Vybz Kartel are performing all over the world and they’re making money. But when you put our heads together and make it look like we are competing, I don’t know competition in this thing that I am doing. I just know that I am doing music for the beautiful people who love Shatta Wale,” he stated.

The comments come amid years of comparisons between Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy, known for their influence on Ghana’s dancehall scene. The two artistes have repeatedly been placed against each other by sections of fans and the media, despite both maintaining successful individual careers.
