The Sagnarigu Municipal Security Council (MUSEC) has placed Damankunyili, Nyeshie and nearby communities under a dusk-to-dawn curfew following a violent communal confrontation that resulted in one death and injuries to six people.

The unrest is linked to a prolonged land ownership dispute between the Damankunyili and Nyeshie communities, both of which are claiming rights over the same piece of land.

Following the incident, the Sagnarigu Municipal Security Council convened an emergency meeting on Tuesday to evaluate the security situation and determine measures to prevent further violence.

In a statement signed by the Municipal Chief Executive and MUSEC Chairman, Abdulai Imoro Gong, the council condemned the acts of violence, extended its sympathies to the family of the deceased and wished those injured a quick recovery.

As part of measures to restore calm, MUSEC announced that a curfew would be enforced daily from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. until further notice.

The council has also prohibited residents in the affected areas from possessing or carrying firearms, ammunition and any other weapons capable of causing harm.

Security presence has been increased in the communities, with joint police patrol teams deployed to monitor the situation, enforce the curfew and maintain public order.

Residents have been urged to strictly observe the restrictions and support security agencies as authorities work to restore peace and stability in the affected communities.
