Ghanaian highlife musician Gladstorm Kwabena Akwaboah Jnr., popularly known as Akwaboah, has dismissed suggestions that his wife, Theresa Naa Akwaboah, has failed to support him in their marriage, insisting that they are enjoying a strong and peaceful relationship.

Speaking in an interview with ZionFelix, the singer and songwriter revealed that he and his wife have been together for four years, including two years of dating before their marriage.

“We’ve been married for two years, and we dated for two years before that, so we’ve been together for four years. By God’s grace, everything is going well. My wife is a very good cook, so when people say I don’t eat well at home, I just wonder who told them that. I’m even happier now than I was before because everything is okay,” he said.

Akwaboah explained that he was aware his wife would face public criticism because of his celebrity status, which was why he prepared her ahead of their marriage.

“Even before we got married, I kept telling her that the day I introduced her to the world, some people would hate her for no reason. She wouldn’t have done anything to them, but they would still have something negative to say,” he stated.

The “Obiaa” hitmaker added that negative comments from outsiders have never created tension between them, noting that they often laugh over such remarks instead of allowing them to affect their bond.

“Whenever people make such comments, she shows them to me, and we just laugh about them. So far, none of it has affected our marriage. We’ve never quarrelled or even thought about divorce because of what people say. We’re like best friends,” he added.

Akwaboah also returned to the controversy surrounding his earlier advice that young people should save at least GH¢8,000 monthly before considering marriage. He argued that many people criticised the suggestion because they had not experienced the financial demands that come with building a family.

“Everybody was quick to attack me because I mentioned GH¢8,000. The younger ones can say whatever they want because they are not married yet. But once you get married and start a family, you’ll realise that even GH¢8,000 isn’t enough. When you factor in diapers, food, supporting your in-laws, and all the other responsibilities, you’ll see that you spend far more than that in a single month,” he said.

Akwaboah, son of legendary highlife musician Kwadwo Akwaboah Snr., continues to maintain his place as one of Ghana’s respected contemporary highlife artistes, blending traditional sounds with modern influences while keeping his personal life away from unnecessary controversy.
