Firefighters injured while battling warehouse fire in Tema
Several firefighters have reportedly sustained injuries while battling a major fire that swept through a rubber recycling warehouse and factory in Tema on Tuesday morning.
The firefighters were responding to the blaze when part of the building’s roof reportedly collapsed during the operation, trapping and injuring some of the personnel.
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has not yet disclosed the number of officers injured or the severity of their injuries.
Despite the incident, firefighting crews remained at the scene, carrying out salvage and overhaul operations to completely extinguish the fire and prevent it from reigniting.
The blaze extensively damaged the warehouse and factory, although the full extent of the destruction has not yet been determined.
The cause of the fire remains unknown, and investigations are expected to begin once the scene has been declared safe.
The Ghana National Fire Service says more information will be released as investigations progress and the situation develops.
