Richard Ahiagbah, Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has officially declared his intention to contest for the position of National First Vice Chairman.

Speaking at his official declaration on July 29, 2026, Ahiagbah said he is not seeking to preserve the status quo but to lead a values-driven NPP that can regain the confidence of Ghanaians and secure victory in the 2028 general elections.

“The New Patriotic Party is at its strongest when our values and structures work, and when our leaders are accountable. Unity then becomes natural and victory achievable,” he stated.

Ahiagbah tied his bid to the vision of NPP flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, saying his goal is to build a united, disciplined party capable of returning to government on January 7, 2029. “I am offering to lead a new phase of party renewal, from the polling station to the National Headquarters, in support of the flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.”

He described the party’s 2024 electoral defeat not merely as a loss at the polls, but as “a call to rebuild from within.” According to him, the time has come to renew the party and prepare deliberately for 2028.

“Strong parties are not built around individuals. They are built on robust structures and systems, empowered grassroots, and members who feel respected, valued, and heard,” Ahiagbah said. “When our structures are strengthened and empowered, and we work as one team, victory is possible.”

As National First Vice Chairman, he pledged to support the National Chairman in reforming party administration, restoring discipline, empowering party executives, and deepening member engagement. He said his commitment is grounded in extensive consultations with party members at all levels and draws on his experience as Director of Communications.

Outlining his vision, Ahiagbah presented a seven-point Leadership Pledge to delegates who will elect the next national executives. “This is not merely a campaign. It is a commitment to unity over division, accountability over personality, and teamwork over parallel structures,” he noted.

He added that his ultimate goal is to endear the NPP to Ghanaians and mobilize a strong coalition to return the party to power.
