GRIDCo begins restoration after nationwide power disruption
The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) has announced that it is working to restore electricity supply after a major power system disturbance led to outages across parts of the country in the early hours of Wednesday, July 29.
According to GRIDCo, the disruption occurred around 3:11 a.m. when several power generation plants connected to the National Interconnected Transmission System shut down simultaneously, resulting in widespread interruptions to electricity supply.
In a statement, the company said its engineers and system operators swiftly initiated the established power restoration process and are coordinating with key stakeholders in the energy sector to bring power back to affected areas as quickly and safely as possible.
GRIDCo explained that restoration efforts are ongoing, with technical teams working around the clock to ensure electricity is restored without compromising the stability and safety of the transmission network.
The company also disclosed that it has launched a detailed technical investigation to establish the exact cause of the disturbance that triggered the nationwide outages.
GRIDCo expressed regret over the inconvenience caused by the incident and appealed to the public for patience while restoration work continues.
The company assured customers that it will continue to provide updates on the progress of restoration efforts and the findings of its investigation as more information becomes available.
