The Concerned Youth of Ewoyaa in the Mfantseman Municipality have petitioned the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, over the delayed payment of compensation related to the Ewoyaa Lithium project.

The group is demanding that compensation be paid immediately and at fair rates to all affected residents.

They have given the Minister a 2-week ultimatum to act, warning that failure to do so will force them to stage a massive public demonstration against Atlantic Lithium and the Government of Ghana.

Speaking to the media, the Secretary of the group, Frank Acquah, said communities affected by Atlantic Lithium’s operations — including Krampakrom, Krofu, Abonko, Abonko-Kulem, Anokyi, Mankessim, and Ewoyaa — are demanding compensation as stipulated in the 1992 Constitution of Ghana.

According to him, residents in the Mfantseman Municipality have endured three years of severe economic hardship, emotional trauma, constant fear, and uncertainty.

“Some of our people have even died as a result of the prolonged delay in payment of compensation,” Mr. Acquah stated. He added that the company has also suspended the Compensation Negotiation Committee, CNC, meetings indefinitely.

The group is urging the Minister to act with empathy and use his authority to ensure justice for the affected communities by facilitating fair compensation across all categories.

The Ewoyaa Lithium project is one of Ghana’s major mining developments, and affected communities say timely and adequate compensation is critical to their survival.
