The Upper West Regional Police Command has recovered 17 stolen motorbikes and arrested four suspects during a targeted anti-robbery operation aimed at curbing motorbike theft and other violent crimes across the region.

In a statement issued on Thursday, July 23, the Police said the operation was part of ongoing efforts to intensify the fight against criminal activities and improve public safety in the Upper West Region.

The suspects, identified as Yusif Mohammed Ali, Abdulai Ibrahim, Abubakar Abdul Rashid and Mustapha Abdul Aziz Posy, were arrested in separate intelligence-led operations carried out between July 11 and July 15 in Wa, Charia and Hamile.

According to the Police, preliminary investigations suggest the suspects were involved in the theft and sale of stolen motorbikes. The Command said the suspects have admitted to their involvement and are cooperating with investigators as enquiries continue.

Further investigations also led to the arrest of four additional individuals suspected of purchasing some of the stolen motorbikes.

The four principal suspects have been remanded into custody by the Wa Circuit Court and are expected to reappear on August 11, 2026.

The Police have meanwhile urged anyone whose motorbike has been stolen to report to their respective District Police Headquarters with valid proof of ownership to help identify and reclaim recovered motorcycles.
