M.D.C to Host 28th International Scientific Conference August 23–27 to Combat Fraud and Quackery

The Medical and Dental Council (MDC) will host its 28th Annual International and Scientific Conference from August 23 to 27, 2026, at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra, aimed at improving practitioner verification, combating fraud, and tackling quackery in healthcare.

The conference seeks to strengthen healthcare regulation across Africa by promoting high standards in medical education, professional registration, ethical practice, regulatory science, and public protection.

The theme for this year’s conference is “Responsive Regulation towards Universal Health Coverage.”

Speaking at a press briefing in Accra, the Registrar of the MDC, Dr. Divine N. Banyubala, said the five-day event will focus on how technology can enhance secure data sharing to improve the verification of practitioners.

“The conference will focus on how technology can help us secure data sharing to improve verification of practitioners, combat fraud, and deal with quackery, whilst at the same time ensure and enhance public protection across our borders,” Dr. Banyubala said.

He noted that the goal is to give Africans greater confidence that those entrusted with their healthcare are competent, ethical, and accountable.

The conference will be opened by President John Dramani Mahama. Also expected to attend are the Speaker of Parliament, the Minister of Health, and other dignitaries from across West Africa.

Dr. Banyubala added that the event will bring together regulators from across the continent to compare policy reforms, identify common challenges, and explore opportunities for harmonizing standards in education, training, and practice.

“This is about making sure our regulatory systems speak to each other. We want a doctor trained in Ghana to meet the same core standards as one trained in Nigeria or Kenya,” he explained.

The M.D.C’s annual conference is one of the largest gatherings of medical regulators in Africa, drawing policymakers, academics, and practitioners to discuss emerging issues in healthcare governance.
