Man demands refund after girlfriend leaves him with child he claims not his
A man identified as Abubakar has shared a heartbreaking account of his relationship with a woman named Salamatu, claiming he sacrificed his livelihood to support her before she allegedly left him with their eight-month-old child.
Abubakar made the allegations on Oyerepa Afutuo, hosted by Aunt Naa, on Wednesday, July 22, 2026. He claimed he met Salamatu when she was unemployed and decided to sell his property and taxi business to help her establish a source of income.
“I am Abubakar. I met a lady called Salamatu. She was not working at the time, and I was a mason too, but my work was not going on so well. I had a plot, so I sold it and later sold a taxi I was using to work small-small to establish a business for her,” he said.
According to him, he later noticed changes in Salamatu’s behaviour and became suspicious of her relationship with another man. He said he eventually discovered the man through a call diversion arrangement he had set up on her phone.
“I later got to see a change in attitude on the part of Salamatu. When I asked her, she denied it and got angry. For evidence sake, I made settings on her phone for her calls to be diverted to me so that I could receive her calls,” he revealed.
Abubakar alleged that the man who contacted him claimed Salamatu was his wife and asked him to stop supporting her.
“When I did that, the guy whom she has been doing that with called and told me Salamatu is his wife, so I should stop taking care of her as my wife,” he claimed.
He claimed Salamatu later became pregnant and that he continued caring for her throughout the pregnancy, only to discover later that she was allegedly receiving financial support from another man as well.
Abubakar added that after the child was born, medical complications required surgery, which he personally financed. However, he said Salamatu eventually left, leaving him responsible for the baby. He further claimed the other man later sent him messages alleging that the child was not his and demanding that the baby be handed over to him.
“After delivery, we realised the child had a hole at the back of the waist side which needed surgery. I took it upon myself to let the surgery be done for the child’s freedom. Her guy also sent me a message insulting me and telling me that the child is not mine, and that I’m just catering for a child who would one day seek his biological father instead of me, so I should bring him the child,” he added.
Abubakar said the situation has affected his ability to work, as he is now solely responsible for caring for the baby. He is demanding that Salamatu reimburse him for expenses incurred if a DNA test proves he is not the biological father, before the child is handed over.
“I need the mother to pay me back all the money spent if the child is not mine, then come for the child,” he stated.
Abubakar is seeking the help of Aunt Naa and her team for a DNA to be conducted and justice given out duly.
