The Ghana Police Service has arrested five suspects for human trafficking and cyber-enabled criminal activities at Kwabenya, Accra. The arrest followed an intelligence-led operation on July 12, 2026, by the Cybercrime Unit in collaboration with the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit and CID Headquarters Operations Unit.

The five suspects are Chigozi Azubuike, 35; Edwin Onyema, 24; Kingsley Nwanchukwu, 29; Henry Ebuke, 32; and Harrison Godwin, 26.

Speaking at a press conference, COP Lydia Donkor, Director-General of CID, said 52 assorted mobile phones and several wireless internet devices believed to have been used in cybercrime offences were recovered and secured for forensic examination.

She said intelligence received on July 11, 2026, indicated that a group had trafficked several young Nigerians into Ghana and housed them at a residential property in Kwabenya, where they were compelled to engage in cybercrime activities. A team of officers was dispatched to the scene.

A search of the three-bedroom apartment revealed one locked bedroom. Suspect Chigozi Azubuike claimed the room belonged to his elder brother who had traveled, but officers found the explanation suspicious and forced entry.

Inside, police found 22 young Nigerian nationals. Preliminary investigations indicate that 18 of them, aged 15 to 24, are victims of human trafficking from Nigeria. The victims had been instructed by Chigozi Azubuike — identified as their self-styled “chairman” — to hide from police.

The 18 victims have been rescued and placed in a safe location under the care of the appropriate authorities. To her, On July 16, 2026, the five suspects were arraigned before Circuit Court 7 in Accra and remanded into police custody to assist investigations.
