Ghanaian dancehall artiste Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr., popularly known as Shatta Wale, has become one of the biggest talking points on Nigerian social media after making a high-profile arrival in Lagos aboard a convoy of two Rolls-Royce vehicles.

Videos circulating online captured the award-winning musician leaving the airport in the luxury cars before greeting his Nigerian hosts in Yoruba. Trying his hand at the local language, he announced, “I am here, I have arrived,” a moment that quickly attracted attention from fans online.

During his stay, Shatta Wale also appeared on the popular Nigerian podcast The Honest Bunch, where he granted an interview and reportedly gifted the show’s hosts 3 million naira, a gesture that further fueled conversations across social media.

His grand entrance and generous donation generated mixed reactions from Nigerians on X. While some praised the Ghanaian star for making a bold statement, others questioned whether the extravagant display was necessary.

One user wrote, “Two Rolls-Royces just for a visit? Eish, that’s showmanship. But is it for the music or the flex?”

Another questioned the source of the luxury vehicles, asking, “Did he buy the Rolls-Royces here in Naija before coming? Abi he rent am?”

Others argued that such displays are common in Nigeria’s entertainment industry and therefore failed to impress. One comment read, “He’s showing us cars even our upcoming artistes all have?”

Despite the criticism, many Nigerians welcomed the dancehall star, with one fan posting, “Welcome to our beloved country, enjoy your stay,” while another joked, “Shatta is more Nigerian than Ghanaian, welcome to Nigeria, the home of Afrobeat.”

Shatta Wale’s visit has drawn even greater attention because of his history with the Nigerian music industry. In 2021, he openly criticised Nigerians over what he described as inadequate support for Ghanaian musicians, remarks that escalated into a public feud with Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu MFR, popularly known as Burna Boy.
