The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has arrested a 25-year-old man suspected of murdering Abdul Jabal Suleman at Abompe New Site, a community in Obuasi.

The suspect, Seidu Masawudu, popularly known as Marshall, was apprehended during an intelligence-led operation at Soe in the Bongo District near Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region.

Police also arrested his 22-year-old girlfriend, a native of Tweapease near Obuasi, during the operation.

Speaking at a press briefing, the Ashanti South Regional Police Commander, DCOP Joseph Hammond Nyaaba, said Marshall had been declared wanted by the Obuasi Police Command in connection with the fatal attack on Abdul Jabal Suleman on July 9, 2026.

According to the Regional Commander, the Obuasi District Police received a distress call at about 2:20 a.m. on the day of the incident, reporting that a group of young men allegedly led by Marshall had attacked the victim with a firearm and cutlasses, inflicting fatal injuries.

A police team was immediately dispatched to the scene, but the suspects had fled before officers arrived. The victim was rushed to the AngloGold Ashanti Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

DCOP Nyaaba said investigations later revealed that the suspect had fled to Bongo in the Upper East Region, leading to the intelligence-led operation that resulted in his arrest on July 11, 2026.

During interrogation, police say Marshall admitted to his involvement in the killing and mentioned several alleged accomplices. The individuals identified include Happy Bowmin (alias Oboy), Mallam Karim, Malik, Balanga, Basit, Nazir, Nuhu, and Jedus (alias Baron).

Preliminary investigations suggest the murder was linked to an ongoing gang rivalry, according to the suspect’s account.

The Police Command said efforts are underway to track down and arrest the remaining suspects to assist with investigations.

Marshall is expected to be arraigned before court in the coming days.

DCOP Nyaaba reaffirmed the Police Service’s commitment to protecting lives and property in the Ashanti South Region, warning that the command will continue to pursue criminals and ensure they face justice.
