Ghana’s strength sports fraternity has been plunged into sorrow following the death of Godfred Akobila, the man who emerged victorious in the 2023 edition of Ghana’s Strongest competition.

Reports indicate that Akobila passed away on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, after a short illness, leaving fans, colleagues and supporters of the competition devastated.

Akobila became a household name in Ghana’s strength sports scene through his remarkable power, endurance and determination, eventually achieving his dream of lifting the Ghana’s Strongest trophy in 2023.

His victory came after years of perseverance and repeated attempts at the competition. He first entered the contest in 2015 but failed to progress, before returning in 2016 to reach the quarter-final stage. He continued competing in subsequent years, improving with each appearance until he finally secured the championship title.

Following news of his passing, tributes have poured in from the strength sports community, with many describing him as a disciplined athlete whose journey represented patience, resilience and commitment.

His death marks a significant loss to Ghana’s growing strength sports movement, with fans remembering him as a fighter who left a lasting legacy.
