A 22-year marriage has reportedly ended in a bitter property dispute after Mary Larbi accused her husband, Godfred Asante, of trying to take sole ownership of a house they built together after allegedly deciding to start a relationship with another woman.

Mary made the allegations during an appearance on Oyerepa TV’s Oyerepa Afutuo, hosted by Ante Naa, on Monday, July 13, 2026. She claimed she financed most of the family’s assets through money she earned while working in Saudi Arabia but is now being denied her share of the property.

According to Mary, financial hardship forced her to travel abroad in search of work to support her husband and children. She said her time in Saudi Arabia was difficult because she endured poor treatment from her employers, yet she stayed until her contract ended.

She said: “I have been married to my husband for 22 years. Things were hard for us, so I travelled to Saudi Arabia to work. Salary payments there were very difficult, but I managed to complete my contract despite the mistreatment I suffered from my employers.”

She explained that after six months of work, she sent a significant amount of money home and instructed her husband to buy a commercial vehicle that could generate income for the family while she remained abroad. However, she said he never showed her evidence that the vehicle had been purchased.

“I sent home the money I had earned over six months and asked my husband to use part of it to buy a car for family upkeep and to pay off our debts. However, he never sent me a picture of the car until I returned to Ghana,” he added.

Mary further alleged that shortly after she returned to Ghana, her former employer contacted her husband and falsely accused her of having an affair with a houseboy. She maintained that the accusation was fabricated because she refused to continue working for the employer after her contract expired.

She also claimed that the vehicle eventually bought with her money was worth far less than the amount she had sent. She therefore sold it and used the proceeds to begin constructing a house on land she had acquired before travelling overseas. Although she acknowledged that her husband contributed financially, she insisted her investment was significantly greater.

“I already owned the land before I travelled, and it was registered in both my husband’s name and mine. I sold the car and used the money to build the house up to the window level,” she stated.

Mary alleged that their marriage took another turn when her husband informed her that he intended to have children with another woman because she could no longer give birth. She claimed that after she rejected the proposal, he began threatening her and making life difficult for her.

According to her, she requested permission to build a small room on part of the property for herself, but her husband refused. She further alleged that he told her he would not forcibly eject her from the house but would make her life so unbearable that she would eventually leave. She also claimed he has divorced her and refuses to give her what she considers her rightful share of the property.

However, when contacted during the programme, Godfred Asante rejected all the allegations. He maintained that the disputed property belongs solely to him and insisted that Mary has no ownership in it.

Mary is now appealing to Ante Naa and the Oyerepa Afutuo team to help her seek justice, recover what she believes is her rightful share of the property, and protect her from what she describes as ongoing threats.
