Award-winning Ghanaian gospel singer Celestine Donkor has shared what she believes are three important factors every woman should evaluate before committing to marriage, cautioning that ignoring them could lead to difficulties in married life.

Speaking in a video posted on her Instagram page, the gospel musician said women should pay close attention to a man’s communication style, sexual compatibility and generosity before accepting a marriage proposal.

According to Celestine Donkor, one of the earliest warning signs is a partner who withdraws completely during disagreements instead of communicating.

She said that, “The first thing to look out for is silent treatment. If there’s an issue and the person gets angry, then goes the whole day, weeks, or even months without speaking to you, you should be very careful about marrying such a person. Women are naturally conversational. When there’s a problem, they usually want to talk about it and resolve it. So if someone resorts to giving you the silent treatment, it’s something that can be very difficult to live with in marriage.”

She also encouraged women to honestly assess whether they and their partners have similar levels of sexual desire, saying a significant mismatch could become a recurring source of conflict after marriage.

“The second thing is sexual compatibility. If a man’s sex drive is very high and he talks about sex all the time, you need to assess yourself. If you don’t have the same level of interest in sex, that marriage may face constant challenges. Make sure your sexual compatibility aligns before you decide to get married,” she added.

The gospel artiste further advised women to observe a man’s attitude toward giving, arguing that his willingness to honour God through tithing can reveal aspects of his character.

“Check whether he is stingy. Look at whether he pays his tithe. Don’t marry a man who doesn’t pay tithes. If he can’t give God 10%, then imagine how he will treat you, a fellow human being,” she stated.

Celestine Donkor, who is known for openly sharing her Christian beliefs and perspectives on marriage and family life, said choosing the right partner requires looking beyond emotions and paying attention to habits and values that can influence a successful and lasting relationship. Her remarks have since sparked discussions on social media, with many agreeing with some of her views while others questioned whether tithing should be used as a measure of a person’s suitability for marriage.
