Ghanaian socialite Frederick Kumi, popularly known as Abu Trica, has reportedly been extradited to the United States following the completion of legal proceedings in Ghana.

According to reports, Abu Trica departed Ghana on Thursday morning aboard Delta Airlines flight DL157.

The extradition came just hours after his lawyer, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, disclosed that his client had been taken to the Police Hospital in Accra. The lawyer expressed concern that he had been denied access to Abu Trica and was unable to meet or consult with him before he was flown out of the country.

Abu Trica has been at the centre of a lengthy extradition process after the United States formally requested his surrender over allegations of financial crimes.

He is wanted by US authorities in connection with alleged money laundering and fraud schemes that reportedly defrauded investors of substantial sums of money.

The case has attracted widespread public attention in Ghana, sparking debate over the country’s extradition procedures, the rights of accused persons, and Ghana’s obligations under international legal agreements.

In an attempt to halt his transfer, Abu Trica filed an application at the Accra High Court challenging the extradition process. However, the court dismissed the application, clearing the way for his extradition to the United States.

Throughout the proceedings, his legal team repeatedly raised concerns over the handling of the case, particularly regarding his access to legal representation and his reported health condition before his departure.
