NPP Upper East Launches ‘Lions of NPP’ Security Group
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Upper East Region has inaugurated a new security group, known as the Lions of NPP, to support the party’s organisational activities and provide security during political engagements.
The group, which comprises members from constituencies across the region, was launched under the motto, “Be Bold to Do the Right Thing.” Its mandate includes protecting the party’s interests, supporting internal programmes, and assisting with security at both constituency and regional events.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, the NPP’s Russian Branch Chairman and leader of the group, Adure Anthony, said the initiative was established to strengthen the party and not to serve personal interests.
According to him, the formation of the group was influenced by security challenges experienced during elections, which he said highlighted the need for political parties to complement the efforts of state security agencies.
“During the recent election, I realised that the number of security personnel was far smaller than the number of voters. Sometimes, political parties also need this kind of private security support to help manage security situations during elections,” he said.
Mr Anthony explained that members of the group would undergo training to ensure they carry out their responsibilities professionally and within acceptable standards.
“The only difference is the training that we will give them. These are young people who want to support the party during future elections,” he stated.
He expressed optimism that similar groups would be established by the party in other regions to provide additional support for political activities across the country.
Mr Anthony also argued that the presence of such groups could help reduce incidents of harassment and misconduct during party events and election-related activities.
“Security is part of our everyday lives. Even with our phones, we have security. When you go to sleep, you lock your door—that is security. This is also about protecting the party from people who want to cause trouble or misbehave,” he added.
