I support Paul Afoko for National Chairman – Amin Adam declares

Former Finance Minister and Member of Parliament for Karaga, Dr Mohammed Amin Adam, has thrown his support behind Paul Afoko in the race for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Chairman position, describing him as the right leader to rebuild the party and prepare it for victory in future elections.

Dr Amin Adam announced his endorsement during a courtesy visit by some NPP leaders and aspiring party executives at his private residence, stating that his decision was based on Mr Afoko’s leadership qualities, experience and ability to reposition the party.

“I support Paul Afoko for National Chairman,” he declared.

According to the former Finance Minister, the NPP requires strong and experienced leadership to reorganise its structures following its defeat in the 2024 general election.

“We know the serious people who can bring us back to power. We do not follow the masses to choose someone to support; we support those we believe have the potential to win and lead the party,” he said.

Dr Amin Adam was quick to clarify that his endorsement of Mr Afoko does not affect his support for the NPP’s 2024 presidential candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

He said he had worked closely with Mr Afoko and was convinced of his competence, adding that the former National Chairman also possesses the fundraising ability needed to support the party while it remains in opposition.

“I have worked with Paul Afoko, and I know he is competent. He can also help raise funds for the party because we need money as a party in opposition,” he stated.

Mr Afoko has been touring the country as part of his campaign for the National Chairman position, promoting what he describes as the “3Rs Agenda”—Reunite, Rebuild and Return the NPP to power.

His campaign has focused on healing internal divisions that emerged after the party’s 2024 electoral defeat and subsequent leadership disputes, while encouraging former members and supporters who became inactive or left the party to return.

Mr Afoko has also pledged to strengthen the party’s grassroots structures by improving the welfare of polling station and constituency executives, providing them with better logistical support and giving them a greater role in decision-making.

According to him, empowering the party’s grassroots will be critical to rebuilding the NPP and positioning it for a successful return to government.
