Kasoa: One arrested, another on the run after alleged mobile money robbery attempt fails at Akweley
Police have arrested one suspect, while another remains on the run, following a failed alleged mobile money robbery attempt at Akweley in the Awutu Senya East Municipality.
According to reports, the two suspects allegedly visited a mobile money vendor under the pretext of making a deposit.
After the vendor completed the transaction and the suspects received a confirmation alert on their phones, they allegedly attempted to flee without paying for the transaction.
Eyewitnesses told Nana Ansah that the suspects arrived on a motorbike. One of them got off to carry out the transaction while the other remained on the bike, waiting.
The suspect who approached the vendor reportedly attempted to escape after receiving the alert, but the vendor raised an alarm.
Nearby residents quickly responded, apprehended the suspect, and assaulted him before police officers arrived at the scene.
Speaking to Nana Ansah, eyewitness Isaac Tekyi said the suspects had intended to scam the vendor.
He added that one suspect was arrested after being beaten by residents, while the other escaped, abandoning the motorbike they arrived on.
The injured suspect was rescued by the police and is currently in custody assisting with investigations.
Efforts are underway to arrest the second suspect, who remains at large.
