“I’ll remove Obinim from my name if he demands it” – Florence speaks on marriage crisis

Gospel musician Florence Obinim has revealed that she is prepared to abandon the “Obinim” name attached to her music career if her husband, Bishop Daniel Obinim, ever requests it, amid growing public scrutiny over challenges confronting their marriage.

Speaking during an interview, the celebrated gospel singer indicated that a person’s destiny, purpose and impact are not tied to a surname. According to her, divine favour and calling transcend names, stressing that she remains confident in God’s direction for her life regardless of any future changes to her identity.

Addressing speculation about whether she would continue using her husband’s surname should their relationship take a different turn, Florence Obinim said she would have no difficulty making the adjustment if it became necessary.

“If Bishop ever asks me to remove his surname from my name, I would do so and choose another name,” she stated.

The comments come against the backdrop of mounting conversations surrounding the state of the marriage between Florence Obinim and the founder of the International God’s Way Church, Bishop Daniel Obinim, popularly known as Angel Obinim. The couple, who have been together for more than two decades, have recently found their private marital struggles becoming a subject of public discussion.

In recent weeks, Bishop Obinim has openly expressed dissatisfaction with developments in the marriage, suggesting that emotional strain and discomfort have affected him. His remarks triggered widespread reactions, prompting renewed interest in the future of one of Ghana’s most talked-about celebrity marriages.

Florence Obinim, however, maintains that she has invested significant effort in preserving the relationship over the years. Despite her commitment to the union, she has made it clear that she would not oppose any decision by her husband to formally end the marriage, insisting that relationships cannot thrive through force or compulsion.

Her latest remarks suggest a woman determined to prioritise peace, faith and personal growth over public perception. While uncertainty continues to surround the future of the marriage, Florence Obinim’s willingness to embrace change—including adopting a new professional identity—signals her readiness to face whatever lies ahead.
