“Leave a toxic marriage; it can destroy your life” — Rev Obofour warns
Ghanaian preacher Reverend Kwaku Agyei Antwi, widely known as Rev Obofour, has triggered widespread reactions after sharing controversial opinions about marriage, churches, and toxic relationships.
Speaking during a sermon, the founder of Anointed Palace Chapel argued that excessive involvement from churches, pastors, and social media has contributed to the collapse of many marriages in recent years. According to him, couples who keep their relationships private and away from constant public and religious interference are more likely to stay together.
“Many marriages influenced by the church have broken down, including those involving pastors’ children. Those who kept their marriages private and did not actively involve the church or social media are still intact. Even 90 per cent of them are still together,” he stated.
Rev Obofour further claimed that many Christians remain trapped in unhealthy marriages because of religious pressure and fear of divorce. He stressed that he would not encourage anyone to stay in a harmful relationship simply for appearances or religious expectations.
“Do you know that Christians are the only people who can stay in bad marriages until death? If you come to me for counselling, I will tell you to leave a toxic marriage because it can destroy your life,” he said.
The outspoken preacher also drew from his personal experiences while discussing infidelity and troubled marriages. According to him, repeated cheating in relationships should not always be ignored because it can become a destructive pattern.
“My father did the same to my mother, and from my experience, I believe that if a man starts engaging in infidelity, he may not stop until serious consequences arise,” he added.
His comments have since generated heated debate on social media, with some people praising him for speaking honestly about toxic marriages, while others criticised his remarks as controversial and potentially discouraging commitment among Christian couples.
