“Respect those before you; We begged Yvonne Nelson” — Pascal blasts Nana Akua
Ghanaian filmmaker Pascal Amanfo has publicly addressed actress and fashion personality Nana Akua Addo following remarks she reportedly made about actress and producer Yvonne Nelson’s appearance in a movie she produced years ago.
In a video that has since generated reactions online, Pascal Amanfo first acknowledged Nana Akua Addo’s impact on Ghana’s entertainment and fashion scene, particularly her influence on celebrity red carpet culture.
“I totally root for you and all you’ve achieved when it comes to putting Ghana on the map and redefining, to a large extent, celebrity red carpet fashion. Kudos. No one, I repeat, no one can take that away from you,” he said.
Despite praising her accomplishments, the director criticised what he described as an attempt to create the impression that she personally secured Yvonne Nelson for the movie project. According to him, the narrative being pushed was inaccurate and failed to reflect what truly happened behind the scenes.
“While responding to certain commenters, you were sharing the poster of a movie I directed, a movie you produced years ago that had Yvonne Nelson as part of the cast, and you were slightly insinuating that, after all, you had Yvonne as part of your movie. Now, I think that’s highly unnecessary and a bit of an ego drive because it’s a distortion of the truth,” he stated.
Pascal Amanfo further revealed that getting Yvonne Nelson on board for the production required considerable effort from several people because Nana Akua Addo allegedly had no direct connection to the actress at the time.
“You wanted Yvonne Nelson to be part of that movie. You had no personal or professional access to Yvonne Nelson. Prince David and I begged — underline the word begged — Yvonne Nelson to be part of that movie,” he disclosed.
According to him, Yvonne Nelson was initially reluctant to take part in the film because she was very selective about the projects she accepted during that period of her career.
“She did not want to do that movie. In conjunction with Shangai and Edmund Kwasi, who was the production manager, we begged Yvonne Nelson to do that movie,” he added.
Although the exchange has stirred conversation online, Pascal Amanfo maintained that he still respects Nana Akua Addo and the brand she has built over the years. However, he stressed the importance of recognising and respecting the achievements of others within the entertainment industry.
“No one can take away from you the brand you have built. Nana Akua Addo is a brand. Yvonne Nelson is a brand. Those are two lines that don’t really need to meet or cross. While we respect you for the brand you are building, you must also respect those who came before you,” he concluded.
Pascal Amanfo remains one of Ghana’s notable film directors, while Nana Akua Addo continues to dominate conversations around fashion and celebrity styling. Yvonne Nelson, on the other hand, remains one of Ghana’s most recognised actresses and producers with a strong presence across Africa’s entertainment scene.
