“I don’t think Stone was talking about me and Sark” — Shatta Wale
Ghanaian dancehall artiste Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr., known in showbiz as Shatta Wale, has reacted to a recent viral social media post by fellow musician Livingstone Etse Satekla, popularly called Stonebwoy, insisting that the message did not disturb him in any way.
The “On God” hitmaker also questioned whether the post was actually aimed at him and rapper Michael Owusu Addo, known as Sarkodie, as many fans had speculated.
Speaking in an interview with Adesope Olajide, Shatta Wale made it clear that he felt no emotional impact from the post, which was interpreted by some as a comment on his relationship with Sarkodie.
“I didn’t feel anything. That tweet didn’t make me feel anything because I know I’m not a fake person. When I love somebody, I love the person deeply,” he said.
He further suggested that Stonebwoy’s post may have been misinterpreted by the public and might not have been directed at either him or Sarkodie.
“I don’t think Stone is talking to me and Sark. I don’t think Stone was referring to us. I feel maybe he’s just trying to find a way to promote his beautiful show that he wants to organize in London. I also feel he was just trying to tap into what he saw,” he added.
Shatta Wale also used the opportunity to reflect on his public image, saying he has been intentionally working to move away from the controversial reputation that has followed him over the years.
According to him, what many perceive as aggression is often a reaction to provocation rather than unprovoked hostility.
“Now the world is developed so much that if you are violent, rich men don’t like it. I’ve tried to wipe that image from my brand because I feel I don’t like this.
“Everything I’ve said on the internet is because somebody has said something about me. If somebody is attacking, wouldn’t somebody defend?” he stated.
The comments add another layer to the long-standing public dynamics between Ghana’s top dancehall acts, as fans continue to analyse interactions between Shatta Wale, Stonebwoy, and Sarkodie on and off social media.
