Actor and musician Zack GH has revealed that a movie producer once allegedly stole phones from members of his film production team in a desperate attempt to secure funds to continue shooting.

Speaking in an interview with Nana Ama Ntsiful on Oyerepa OBT Entertainment, Zack GH reflected on the difficult conditions actors sometimes endure behind the scenes in the Ghanaian movie industry, especially when productions run into financial challenges.

According to him, the incident happened during a movie shoot where the production team was already struggling with accommodation and logistics due to financial problems the producer had failed to disclose to the cast and crew. Zack GH explained that despite the harsh conditions on set, the team decided to endure the situation out of passion for the work and a desire to support the struggling producer.

“It is where you will sleep. I quite remember that I went on a particular set. I don’t want to mention the producer’s name. What happened was the producer was in crisis, but he didn’t say it. His money got exhausted, but he didn’t say it. And we were on the set. Where to sleep was a problem, but we managed. Four to five people were occupying one room. But we managed just to help him and for the love of the work,” he said.

However, the situation took a dramatic turn when several cast and crew members woke up one morning to discover that their phones had disappeared. According to Zack GH, production activities were immediately halted as everyone joined efforts to search for the missing devices. After hours of confusion and investigation, the shocking truth allegedly emerged.

“One fine morning on the set, people’s phones were missing. Almost 11 people had their phones missing on that set. By the time we were done searching, it was the producer who had stolen the phones. He was going to sell them to get money, then come and continue with the movie,” he revealed.

The actor further explained that the discovery created tension among members of the production team, with some people proposing spiritual means to identify the culprit. Zack GH noted that he and some Muslim members of the crew objected to the idea because it conflicted with their religious beliefs. He added that a pastor who lived near the lodge where they were staying also advised against the spiritual approach and encouraged the team to pursue a more reasonable way of resolving the matter.

“Some of the women in the team decided not to accept it. So they went to buy eggs to curse whoever did that. I also, being a Muslim, said Islam hated that. Not only myself, but other Muslims on the set said no,” he stated.

According to Zack GH, a young man on the set later suggested that the phones were with some of the leaders of the production team, a claim that initially angered him.

“But there was this guy among us. I don’t know if he was a spiritualist or not. He did something. He said the phones were with the heads of the team, so we should ask the leaders. I got very angry when he said that because I felt he was accusing the leaders as a young boy just coming into the industry,” he recalled.

Eventually, the pastor reportedly interrogated members of the production team one after another until the executive producer confessed.

“So it was the pastor who interrogated everyone one by one. Then when it got to the turn of the executive producer, he confessed that he took them. He said he had no money and did not know what to do,” Zack GH said.

The actor described the incident as the worst experience he has ever encountered in his career, revealing that the team ultimately abandoned the production without completing the movie.

“So that is the worst experience. So we decided to leave without continuing the movie,” he concluded.

Zack GH’s revelation has since sparked conversations among entertainment fans about the hidden struggles within Ghana’s movie industry, particularly issues surrounding funding, welfare conditions on movie sets, and the challenges actors sometimes endure behind the scenes in pursuit of their craft.
