Award-winning Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie has offered rare insight into his long-standing relationship with dancehall musician Shatta Wale, explaining that despite their public misunderstandings and occasional fallouts, there is still mutual understanding between them behind the scenes.

Speaking in a recent interview, the rapper dismissed suggestions that tension always exists between them whenever they are not publicly seen together. According to Sarkodie, his relationship with Shatta Wale has never depended on constant communication or public displays of friendship.

“I could do business with Wale without necessarily being friends or talking back-to-back, but we actually have a great time whenever we hang out,” he said.

Sarkodie described Shatta Wale as one of the most genuine people he has encountered in the music industry, noting that the outspoken dancehall artiste always stands firmly by his beliefs, whether right or wrong.

The rapper admitted that their personalities are completely different, especially in the way they handle disagreements and industry-related issues.

“I am more action-driven than words. If there’s an issue, I would rather sit down with the person and talk about it. Shatta, on the other hand, will call the person out publicly,” he explained.

Reflecting on the period when they communicated more frequently, Sarkodie disclosed that he sometimes encouraged Shatta Wale to publicly voice concerns while he quietly handled things behind the scenes.

“I would tell him, ‘Go and say it and I’ll do it,’ because he would say it and get away with it,” Sarkodie said with a laugh.

The rapper also addressed the public perception that their disagreements are usually rooted in insults or online attacks. According to him, many of the frustrations between them were actually linked to missed creative opportunities and projects they could not successfully execute together.

He pointed to their popular collaboration, “Megye Wo Girl,” as one of his biggest disappointments, explaining that despite the song’s success, it never received an official music video.

“Those are the things that frustrate me. It’s not because he insulted me or anything. It doesn’t even make sense,” he said amid laughter.

Sarkodie further revealed that he has never taken Shatta Wale’s public criticism personally because he understands his personality and temperament.

According to him, even when the dancehall artiste makes controversial comments about him online, he often finds humour in the situation rather than taking offence.

“I know he’s not serious. Shatta will insult you today, and tomorrow he’s fine. The way his facial expression looks makes people think he’s serious, but he’s not. So, I’ll laugh, record the video, and send it to him,” he disclosed.

The rapper added that Shatta Wale has maintained the same outspoken nature since his early days in the music industry, when he was widely known as Bandana. He also praised his creativity, freestyle talent, and ability to remain authentic throughout his career.

Sarkodie’s comments come shortly after the two musicians reunited on stage during Kweku Smoke’s concert in London, a moment that sparked renewed conversation among fans about the true nature of their relationship.

Over the years, Sarkodie and Shatta Wale have shared one of the most talked-about dynamics in Ghana’s music industry, alternating between collaboration and public disagreements. However, Sarkodie’s latest remarks suggest that much of what the public perceives as personal animosity may instead be the result of creative differences and contrasting personalities rather than genuine hatred.
