“Weed helps me connect with my thoughts” — Mzbel opens up on marijuana use

Veteran Ghanaian musician Mzbel has sparked fresh conversations online after opening up about her personal experience with marijuana and why she believes it has positively influenced her lifestyle and mental well-being.

Speaking candidly during an interview with Zionfelix, the outspoken artiste explained how weed tea has become part of her relaxation and meditation routine, especially during yoga sessions.

According to Mzbel, marijuana helps her remain calm, reflective, and emotionally balanced — a feeling she says differs greatly from the effects of alcohol. She further described marijuana as a “powerful herb,” adding that when used responsibly, it can offer certain benefits.

She stated: “Weed makes you very calm and takes you within yourself. When I take weed tea, it helps me connect with my thoughts.”

The “16 Years” hitmaker revealed that she carefully chooses what she consumes depending on her mood, environment, and the kind of energy she wants to project. Mzbel explained that alcohol tends to make her more energetic and hyperactive, while weed helps her slow down, meditate, and focus internally.

She added: “If you see me calm somewhere, it means I have taken weed. But if you see me hyper somewhere, then it means I have taken alcohol.”

Despite speaking positively about her experience, Mzbel also cautioned people against the irresponsible use of marijuana. The musician stressed that first-time users should never experiment without proper guidance, as the experience can sometimes feel mentally overwhelming.

“It can be mentally overwhelming if you take it for the first time, so we guide you and help you calm down,” she stressed.

According to her, moderation is important, as excessive use can negatively affect productivity and motivation.

She continued: “When used properly, it can be beneficial, but if you make it a habit, it slows you down. I only do it when it’s necessary.”

Since the interview surfaced online, reactions have continued pouring in across social media, with fans sharing mixed opinions about the singer’s candid remarks.

While some praised Mzbel for openly discussing her experiences and promoting responsible use, others questioned the public influence celebrities may have when speaking on such sensitive topics.

Regardless of the debate, the interview has once again placed Mzbel at the center of public conversation — something the veteran musician has never been unfamiliar with throughout her career.
