Volta Region: 15 dead, 25 injured in accident on Peki-Tsame road

At least 15 people have been confirmed dead, with 25 others injured, following a fatal road accident at Peki-Tsame in the Volta Region.

The crash occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, June 2, 2026, near Peki Senior High School, when a Mercedes-Benz container truck travelling from Nkwanta to Accra collided head-on with a Mercedes-Benz passenger bus heading from Battor to Kabiti in the Oti Region.

According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), 40 people were involved in the accident, comprising 21 males, 15 females, and four children.

Firefighters from the Peki Fire Station responded swiftly to the scene and conducted rescue operations to extricate victims trapped in the wreckage.

The GNFS confirmed that 25 injured persons, including 23 adults and two children, were rescued and transported to the Peki Government Hospital for treatment.

The deceased victims were made up of nine males and six females. Their bodies were handed over to the Police and transferred to the hospital mortuary for preservation and further investigations.

Authorities have not yet established the cause of the crash, with investigations ongoing to determine the circumstances that led to the collision.

Meanwhile, the GNFS has extended its condolences to the bereaved families and urged motorists to strictly observe road safety regulations, avoid reckless driving, and exercise caution to reduce road accidents across the country.
