State-Sponsored Terrorism Must Never Happen Again” – Dr. Nduom Vows to Rebuild GN Bank
The Chairman of Groupe Nduom, Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom, says his group is moving ahead with plans to resume work and rebuild GN Bank, describing its closure as “state-sponsored terrorism” that must never be repeated.
Speaking at a press briefing in Accra today, Dr. Nduom said “This, what I call state-sponsored terrorism, must never be repeated or visited on our people again as we move forward as a nation. So we thank God for our lives and the opportunity to look forward now with optimism.”
He stressed that this is not a time for conflict or negativity. “This is not a time to quarrel, sow hatred, or be negative — that’s not what we are doing here. We are moving with faith in the Lord and confidence in our abilities to change what has been negative into something positive that we can all be proud of.”
Dr. Nduom praised the Court of Appeal for delivering justice after nearly seven years of legal battles. He said the three-member panel set aside the entire judgment of the High Court, Human Rights Division, dated January 24, 2024.
He recalled serving notice of appeal on January 26, 2024, stating he was “dissatisfied and aggrieved by the entire judgment.” He also referenced the Supreme Court’s ruling on July 19, 2023, which sent the case back to the High Court. At that time, he said, “the battle has not ended. We want our license back.”
“Our task is clear — to rebuild the people’s bank and take formal and safe banking to the doorstep of every person living anywhere in Ghana,” he added.
Dr. Nduom noted it took nearly 20 years to build GN Bank, “only for it to be pulled down in one day,” but insisted there is now a national duty to rebuild it “step by step.”
